The mare performance test

The mare performance test is an important indicator of the improvement of the Hanoverian horse. The performance test does not only give information about the mare’s capabilities, but also gives information concerning stallion choices for the mare. The performance test also reveals what the sire attributes.
How do I enter my mare?
Sign up by the end of July through our Society’s web pages. You need to bring along the mare’s papers in order to participate.
Requirements
Mares of the age three and older may participate in the test. The mares need to be eligible to or registered to the Hanoverian studbook. The mare will get an entry in its passport about the test. It is possible to retry the test once.
What is being judged?
The following aspects will be judged: the basic gaits; walk, trot and canter, the mare’s rideability by own rider and test rider, and the mare’s jumping talent in free jumping. Mare test performed abroad are so called field tests that last for one day. In Germany there are so called Station tests that last 26 days. These tests are organized in Verden and in Dillenburg.
Assessment?
In every aspect the scores are from 0 to 10, 0 being not completed and 10 excellent. Every aspect gets an individual score (walk, trot, canter, free jumping; behavior and capacity, rideability; own rider and test rider) and also score point average from gaits, jumping ability and rideability.
Every participant receives a stable plaque and a test certificate after the test. The mares are not placed. Every mare gets an oral evaluation by the judge. If the mare is not registered in the studbook, the result will remain unofficial until it is a registered Hanoverian.
Judges
The judge’s commission consists of a representative of the Verband as Judges well as a judge of horse shows. Additionally there is a test rider who gives the scores for rideability.
