Would You like to breed Hanoverians in Finland?

The Finnish breeder has now the opportunity to breed Hanoverians in Finland. There will annually be an occasion in August or September for Hanoverian breeder s where foals can be identified and registered to the Hanoverian studbook. At the same time it is possible to register the mares and show them in the mare performance tests. The requirements are that the foal’s dam and sire are also registered in the Hanoverian studbook. To be accepted to the Hanoverian studbook the mares and stallions need to have at least 50 % of Hanoverians in their pedigree. Representatives of other studbooks can also be accepted to the Hanoverian studbook; thoroughbreds, Arabian horse, Anglo-Arabs and other German studbooks. The Hanoverian also accepts Dutch, Danish and Swedish studbooks. Unfortunately the FWB studbook is still not accepted in the Hanoverian Society. An FWB mare can be registered to the Hanoverian studbook if the mare’s dam and sire are registered to the Hanoverian studbook.
Hanoverians born in Finland will firstly be registered to Germany but they will also have to be registered to Finland. A Hanoverian born in Finland can participate in all competitions, auctions, mare and stallion performance tests and shows in Germany. In Finland the Hanoverian can participate in all shows, competitions and events besides the Breeders Price competition. A Hanoverian born in Finland is part of the Finnish breeding even if it first is registered to Germany.
The Hanoverian studbook is a recognized and respected brand in the world.
To breed the mare and register the foal
A form will be sent at the beginning of the year to those active breeders who have paid their mare’s annual fee (25€). The information about the mare will be filled on the form in advance. This form resembles the Finnish certification of breeding. This form will be sent to the owner of the stallion who fills the information about the breeding or insemination. The stallion’s owner sends the original piece of the form to Hannover Verband and copies of the form to the mare’s owner at the end of the year.
The year after the breeding the mare’s owner will receive a birth certificate. When the mare foals the owner of the mare will save the birth certificate for the registration. The birth certificate will be handed to a register authorized by Hannover Verband who then fills when the foal is registered. The person fulfilling the registration keeps the first copy of the certificate and gives the other copies to the breeder of the foal.
If the mare will not be in foal or foals a dead foal, the mare’s owner fills the birth certificate and sends it to Hannover Verband.
The horse passport
Since 1998 all horses receive a horse passport.
From the passport following information can be found:
1) origins and identification information about the horse; registration number, gender, color, date of birth, breed, pedigree, breeder and owner
2) Veterinarian documents, for example vaccination information
3) F.E.I passport. A horse that competes on international level does not need any other documents
If the horse’s dam and sire are both registered, the passport will be pink. If only the one of the parents is registered, the passport will be white.
The passport will be filler throughout the horse’s life;
- when the horse is transported in different countries
- results from competitions, shows, studbook and performance test results
- laboratory results
The regulations of the European Union require that the horse can be identified at any time. That is why the horse’s passport has to be at hands any time it is transported.
Besides this there is a document that shows the ownership of the horse. This document has to be kept away from the horse passport in order to avoid misuse.
